Useful Resources

The National Sea Urchin Resource Center (NSURC) is a centralized hub based in UC San Diego providing sea urchins and husbandry expertise to support the international sea urchin research community.

NSURC offers protocols for raising sea urchins from egg to egg, and distributes laboratory-grown transgenic, inbred, mutant, and wild-caught animals. We supply Strongylocentrotus purpuratus (purple sea urchin) and Lytechinus pictus (painted sea urchin). Available resources include inbred lines with stable genetic backgrounds, transgenic and mutant animals. To support long-term research success, NSURC also provides guidance and resources to support husbandry efforts.
